My Short Short for the Day

Milly ran her fingers ever so lightly over the fabric. It was so silky and soft, she could hardly believe it would soon be her new gown. Her very first Ball gown. She closed her eyes letting the fantasy form in her mind as she twirled around. Then Doug walked in, took her hand and twirled her again before pulling her into a waltz. They glided across the room, feet barely touching the floor as they danced. Milly laughed with delight and hugged her dear friend tight before letting go to look at the fabric again.

“You'll look lovely.” Doug said smiling proudly at his favorite student.

“Thank you.” Milly gave him a quick smile before turning back to the fabric. “It's so exciting. My first Ball, my first fancy gown, my first dance.”

“And you'll be the most beautiful, young lady there.” Doug said. “All the young men will line up to have a turn dancing with you.”

“I just hope I don't step on any toes.” Milly blushed a little.

“You'll be fine.” Doug patted her arm. “Remember to keep your chin up.”

Milly closed her eyes to imagine the glamorous ballroom one more time. Then she hurried upstairs and began to prepare for the most exciting night of her life. Hopefully just the first of many. She thought.
