306 Days Until Race Day!

Holy Crap it's hot out there! This heat wave is kicking my butt and stomping on me while I'm down! It's been going on for at least 3 weeks now and apparently there is going to be a heat spike over the next few days. When will it end? Needless to say, I haven't been running. I've tried to get out for some walking but my favorite walking buddy said no way so I've been on my own. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to walk for very long as it's just so suffocatingly hot and I end up drenched in sweat within minutes.

However, I do need to exercise a minimum amount or I get fidgety so I've taken up pacing in my home. I'm starting to wear a path down in my living and dining room. It's not ideal by any means, but it's something. I've tried to get back into my strength training but that's been harder to settle back into. I think I need to go back to setting an alarm on my phone as a reminder to do my workout. For some reason, that seems to help my brain be more likely to follow through on an activity. Actually, I'm going to pause writing and set the alarm now so there's no excuses. Done!

Now, looking to the future. I can't believe I'm 59 days into this challenge and I feel like I don't have much to show for it. Talk about a slow start! Ok, since I don't know how long this heat wave is going to last I need to stop waiting for that and get back to making progress. The time is going to fly by and I don't want to get to race day and be mad at myself for not trying harder. So, starting today, I'm going to get back into my daily strength training/workout. I will also get back to walking on a daily basis, I just need to figure out when the temperature will be ok enough so I can get outside. Alright, that's my plan. I've got this!

323 Days Until Race Day!

I bet you thought I gave up. Nope! Just been moving into a new place and oh, my goodness, I am so exhausted (both emotionally and physically) and sore. Who knew that moving after 20+ years in the same home would be so taxing. I never considered myself a collector but over time, things sure can accumulate. Anyway, me and my favorite little walking buddy moved into a new place last week and we are just now finally pretty much settled in, so I promise to not take so long to update my progress again.

On the upside, I sure did get a lot of strength exercising in with all of the lifting, bending, carrying and unpacking. Not to mention the cleaning. My muscles are almost back to feeling normal again after all of that extra exercising. On the downside, there has been a heat wave so we haven't been able to walk as much as I'd like. We've walked some but not consistently. I'm hoping the weather cools off soon so we can get back to walking and hopefully a little running soon?. Maybe.

I still want to compete and I know I have a long way to go with many obstacles, however, I'm stubborn and I hope to use that to my full advantage and not give up. I love track and field and miss it terribly so this is a great opportunity for me to recapture some of my youthful joy. Wish me luck!
